EXPERIENCE

Don Smith specializes in businesslike, yet understanding coaching for employers and career changers, including  job hunters, self-employed consultants, interim managers, and people in mid-life and/or seeking early retirement. He has over 20 years experience helping executives and professionals to the next career level.

Bilingual in English and French, Don is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan Teachers College, and of Richard N. Bolles Career Change (two weeks) training workshop. Dick Bolles is famous for his best selling book “What Color is Your Parachute?” Don has also received specialized training from Edgar H. Schein, from the Sloan School of Management, at MIT. Schein is the author of Career Dynamics. Don qualified as a CMC (Certified Management Consultant) in 1985.

After several years in teaching, marketing and sales, Don became a “head-hunter” for an important Montreal (retainer) executive search firm. Three years later he joined Drake Beam Morin (later DBM) in Paris, helping French executives find work. Back in Montreal, as a Principal at the major consulting firm of Touche Ross & Partners, (now Deloitte & Touche) Don designed and launched their new Career Management program. He installed large in-house career transition programs at Hydro-Québec and Bombardier Aerospace. Later Don launched his own Career Transition firm, which he managed for 15 years.

Don has coached executives and professionals from many large and small organizations such as Rolls Royce, Bombardier, Hydro-Québec, Gaz Metropolitain, CMC Electronics, Hewitt Equipment, Catelli Foods, Humpty Dumpty, Domtar, among others.
